Georgina Duncan, a Romantic & Impressionist Pianist

Georgina is a recent graduate of the University of St Andrews, achieving her undergraduate and postgraduate Masters in English Literature, though her musical roots lie in her home city of Liverpool where she began learning the piano at the age of six.

Joining the university in 2020, Georgina became a Christina Kennedy Memorial Piano Scholar under the tuition and mentorship of Ancuta Nite-Doyle. Securing several opportunities to perform in lunchtime concerts, competitions and public masterclasses with pianists including Fali Pavri and Joanna MacGregor, Georgina has endeavoured to improve her technique and broaden her repertoire ever since, and cherishes the musically and personally enriching experiences she gained during her time at university.

Georgina remained actively involved in the wider musical scene at St Andrews, claiming the Music Centre Sawyer Prize in 2024 for her contribution to university music, with choral and conducting scholarships with St Leonard’s Chapel Choir, and a vocal scholarship with St Salvator’s Chapel Choir to her name. Georgina also enjoyed performing in various operetta and musical productions both at the university and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and spent her final year as a member of St Andrews Madrigal Group.

Known for her Grieg and Debussy fanaticism, Georgina’s repertoire unabashedly centres itself around her Romantic and Impressionist musical heroes, rarely performing a recital without a Chopin-authored grand finale. Georgina’s ambition remains to play with the emotional integrity these era’s compositions demand, and prides herself in energetically engaging with her audiences. It is often while performing that Georgina’s love for music and literature join in harmony, as she forever strives to share her passion for piano music’s expressiveness, dynamism and unceasing capacity for story-telling.
